Margaret Glackin and Catherine Faley are designer/makers who produce
individually designed, handmade items in ceramic and wood. These range from
sculptural work to domestic ware. They use reclaimed wood to produce furniture,
boxes and other useful pieces. The utilitarian aspect of their domestic ware is
a means of engaging customers with practical items which are also pieces of
art.
Margaret’s ceramic Yarn Bowls are the original and best! They are hand thrown with a distinctive “Y” shape cut in to represent Yorkshire and Yarn. The Yarn Bowls (and other ceramic items) are glazed using Margaret’s own glaze recipes which are inspired by the Yorkshire landscape, where she now lives, and the Antrim coast of her childhood. Catherine’s wooden boxes and furniture are made from reclaimed timber salvaged from demolished buildings in and around Yorkshire. The timber is over 100 years old and the boxes and furniture of finished to a high standard, sanded to a smooth finish and waxed with a dark oak (or other colour) Liberon wax. Most items can be made to measure.
