Beeswax tablet with stylus
Beeswax tablets have been a popular note taking device since at least the 14th century bc and was still widely used in the medieval period. The wax made it possible to make temporary notes which could then be 'erased' to allow the notepad to be reused.
The stylus has a pointed end for making notes and a flat end of erasing them.
There is no need to inscribe very deeply in the wax to be able to read your notes and the shallower the marks the easier it will be to erase them later. You might need to play a bit to find what works for you.
Erasing requires smooth firm strokes with the wide flat end of the stylus. As the wood is quite thin this is generally better and simpler to do with the tablet on a hard flat surface.
